Dear Readers, I am Gun6, one of Alex’s Real-Life friends, and I am here to inform you about pokemon.
First of all, we KNOW the anime sucks! So stop giving the games bad credit for what the anime did.
Second, it is NOT a “Kiddy” game. There is science and math involved, and strategic elements included. While a 7-year old might say a Mewtwo with a moveset of this (read below) is good, it is actually a TERRIBLE moveset.
Mewtwo Lv. 100
(Any Nature)
(Any Hold Item)
Mega Kick
Mega Punch
Psychic
Swift

Ok, now moving onto the gameboy games. We’ll start history with Red/Blue (Green in Japan), and Yellow.
A game has stricken the world, bringing 151 monsters called Pokemon (Pocket Monsters in Japan) With their own stats, attacks, and visual characteristics. You, as the trainer, are on a goal to catch all 151 monsters as you defeat all 8 gym leaders and the Elite Four. You will be tested with battle by trainers on the road with the same goal as you, and the evil team Rocket whose intention is much more sinister.
^^^
Now gameplay-wise, Pokemon R/B (G)/Y Is very solid and strategic. It boasts satisfying graphics (for that time) and has the main elements that the current games have. It’s very cut-and-dry, catch all the pokemon, beat the gyms, beat the elite four. But, the one thing that makes this game stand out is the fact that it allows you to battle and trade with other people (if you have the game link cable), because the in-game trainers are, well… less-than intelligent… It also has glitches (not activated unless if you intend to.)
Score for pokemon R/B (G)
9.0 (At that time) 7.5 (Current)
(Pokemon Yellow is similar, except you have Pikachu follow you around, as well as slightly updated graphics)
9.2 (At that time) 7.8 (Current)

Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal
Bringing in a new colorful world, and 100 new pokemon, this is a true classic. It includes night and day functions (which have not been seen in any other Pokemon games to date), the introduction of baby pokemon (and breeding!!!), and the ability to trade pokemon from your Red/Blue/Yellow games, as long as there are no new pokemon from G/S/C or pokemon with new attacks introduced in G/S/C. The game is significantly better graphic-wise, and introduces many new combos for Pokemon to unleash. It has a slightly better AI level for trainers, and a much more challenging time playing against your friends (or foes.)
Score for Pokemon : Gold/Silver
9.2 (At that time) 8.5 (Current)
(Crystal is like Pokemon: G/S except it adds more challenge to the game with the battle tower, and includes animations for the pokemon when they enter battle.)
9.3 (At that time) 8.8 (Current)

Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald
The first Pokemon game for the Gameboy Advance, and a good one too! It adds 100 more pokemon (I think
) and it opens up a can of new attacks for all the pokemon! The story and goal is the same as the two eras before it, BUT, there are now two teams called Team Aqua and Team Magma to replace Team Rocket (We liked them too T_T). Their goals are to expand the sea and expand the land mass (respectively). But then, Groudon (If you play Ruby) or Kyogre (If you play Sapphire), send a great drought/downpour across the land, endangering all life. It’s up to YOU to save the world.
Score for pokemon Ruby/Sapphire
9.4 (At that time) 9.1 (Now)
(Emerald is to R/S as Crystal is to G/S, basically. It adds more than the battle tower though, as a matter of fact, it adds a whole ISLAND based around challenges. It’s a bit more fun too!)
9.6 (Now
)

Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green
Basically Pokemon Red/Blue with Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire graphics and pokemon. It also introduces the Sevii Islands, one of which you can get Deoxys on (if you have the E-Reader card for it), and an Island to catch Lugia/Ho-oh on (if you have the E-Reader card for it). It has tiny print though. I don’t know why >.>
Score for Pokemon FR/LG
9.2 (Then) 9.1 (Now)
Well, that concludes the history of the Pokemon RPGs.
~Gun6, signing off.
P.S.: My fingers hurt T_T
